ANC 4D Purpose & Function
Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4D represents the Petworth neighborhood.
The Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANC) consider a wide range of policies and programs affecting their neighborhoods, including traffic, parking, recreation, street improvements, liquor licenses, zoning, economic development, police protection, sanitation and trash collection and the District's annual budget.
In each of these areas, the intent of the ANC legislation is to ensure input from an advisory board that is made up of the residents of the neighborhoods who are directly affected by government action. The ANCs are the body of government with the closest official ties to the people in a neighborhood.
The ANCs present their positions and recommendations on issues to various District government agencies, the Executive Branch and the DC Council. They also present testimony to independent agencies, boards and commissions, usually under rules of procedure specific to those entities. By law, the ANCs may also present their positions to federal agencies.

Special Thanks & Holiday Wishes
Christmas Comes to Brightwood Park United Methodist Church
Pastor Gerald Elston, Jr. and his team of volunteers assisted the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4D and the Young People of Tomorrow Inc., in providing holiday gifts to nearly 30 families in need. The event was a great success and many families greatly appreciated the community support for them this holiday season. Local larger organizations such as Howard University Hospital were even able to support the event by adopting several families. Commissioner Donna Brockington stated regarding the event "It has been a tremendous experience to aid some of our community's most needy families and that's what we are here to do, help our community." Commissioner Lisa Colbert added "We are looking foward to making this an annual event for ANC 4D, if circumstances permit."
